Island Hide-A-Way Campground
Island Hide-A-Way is a small private campground on Buxton Back Road, tucked into the trees a short distance from the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and the Buxton beach accesses. It is one of the least-documented campgrounds on Hatteras Island, and it does not appear to run its own website.

What is not confirmed
Everything above comes from the Dare County Outer Banks Visitors Bureau, the official tourism authority for the islands, which lists Island Hide-A-Way among its campgrounds and RV parks. That is enough to establish that the campground exists and is presented to visitors as somewhere to stay. It is not enough to publish nightly rates, a site count, a maximum rig length, an operating season or a pet policy, so those fields are recorded as not verified rather than guessed at.
Call the campground directly at 252-995-6628 before planning a trip around it. Useful questions: do you rent by the night and by the week, what is the longest rig you can take, are all sites full hookup, what are your 2026 rates, and are dogs allowed?
Where it sits
Buxton Back Road runs behind the village, away from NC 12, which makes this a quieter base than the oceanfront resorts further north. Cape Point Campground and the lighthouse are a few minutes away, and Frisco Woods Campground is roughly fifteen minutes southwest if you need published rates and a confirmed reservation system.
